The Rodeo Contestant's Handy Guide to San Antonio

Travel to the Rodeo

Travel to San Antonio

San Antonio is easy to get to as both IH-35 and IH-10 cross through the city. If you plan to explore San Antonio outside of downtown, we would recommend renting a car. Also, reach out to your Belles community and think about car pooling or sharing resources.

Airport:

The San Antonio International Airport is a 10 minute drive from The Westin San Antonio North. Note: Some people choose to fly into Austin as it is a 90-minute trip and Austin can sometimes be cheaper to fly into. However, you would need to arrange your own transportation by car or bus to San Antonio.

Bus:

  • Greyhound - Domestic bus service
  • Vonlane (Houston only): If you are coming from Houston, it is a great option as well. Basically it’s a fancy Greyhound bus.

Dining Options

We like to eat in the Alamo City! There are many dining options located around the venue. San Antonio has a casual vibe: very few places have a dress code and most accept shorts and sandals. We recommend calling or visiting a website to confirm hours, availability, etc. before dining.

San Antonio has several food delivery services including DoorDash, Uber Eats and GrubHub.

Attractions

Things to See and Do

There is so much to do in Texas’ most popular tourist destination! If you have some free time or are bringing some friends who aren't playing pinball (sad!), here are some great attractions to visit:

  • The Alamo - THE LEGEND! A definite must visit for Texans and non-Texans alike!
  • The San Antonio Riverwalk - In the heart of downtown, the Riverwalk is a beautiful site for visitors. There are many bars and restaurants along the walk. We’d recommend a Barge Tour!
  • El Mercado/Market Square: Shop for beautiful and unique gifts in the shopping area. It is also home to dozens of shops and several restaurants, making it one of the largest Mexican markets north of the Mexico border.
  • The San Antonio Missions National Park: The only world heritage site in the USA. This collection of missions is a unique view into the history of San Antonio. Mission San Jose is the largest and worth a visit. Many people bike the mission trail for fun as well.
  • San Antonio Zoo: Visit our beautiful world-class zoo! It is only a fifteen minute drive from the venue.
  • McNay Art Museum: The first modern art museum in Texas. The grounds and sculpture garden are worth the trip alone, but there is also the diverse and wonderful art collection for visitors to take in.
  • The Pearl: A beautiful upscale shopping/dining district located a short five minute drive north of downtown.

Pinball:

  • Whats Brewing? - Our clubhouse and the largest public collection in San Antonio. They also serve amazing coffee!
  • PinStack - Bowling, arcades and more!
  • Hamby’s - Burger joint with several classic pinball machines
  • Slackers (North St. Mary’s) - Dive bar with 4-5 modern titles
  • Be Kind Rewind - Downtown retro bar with 4 titles
